THE OM SYSTEM GUIDE TO

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY

PHOTOGRAPHING THE EARTH'S BEAUTIFUL SIDE.

Earth has boundless natural beauty. You just need to know where to look and how to capture it. Whether you’re getting started or you’ve been shooting for years, you’ll learn something new.

THESE TIPS WILL INSTANTLY MAKE YOU A BETTER LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER

01.

Planning is key

Plan your landscape photos. Perhaps you are going to visit a destination for the first and last time. Find out about the location, be inspired by photographs of others, visit the place before if you can. Specially if you are going to shoot a night landscape, you should visit it before daylight. Check the weather forecasts to avoid surprises or at least to be prepared. A cloudy sky can ruin a Milky Way, but it may offer a beautiful thunderstorm.

02.

Understand the light and train the eye

Natural light changes frequently and rapidly. Analyze the light, train your eye by taking pictures without a camera, observe the scene well to make good decisions. A ray of light on a specific element of the scene can be key in a composition.

03.

Get the most out of computational photography

Expand your creativity without limits thanks to the many computational functions that OM SYSTEM cameras offer you. Get more details with the HighRes mode, capture that silky water stream with LiveND, add highlights with Live Composite mode or extend depth of field with Focus Stacking. The possibilities are unlimited.

04.

Decide on the gear that will accompany you

Know your equipment in depth, both your camera and your lenses. The ideal light can appear at any moment and you must be prepared to react because the moment is fleeting. A cloud, a gust of wind, the changing position of the sun, are sometimes unpredictable variables that can require you to change parameters in the camera very quickly.

ALL THE FEATURES YOU NEED TO CAPTURE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENE

Our mirrorless OM camera system is up to half the size and weight of other 35mm format flagship camera systems. This gives landscape photographers more flexibility, more energy, and more shooting time in the field to get the perfect shot.

Weathersealed design

Lousy weather often takes you by surprise. The OM Series and our PRO lenses have you covered. They’re splashproof, dustproof and freezeproof (down to 14 ̊F / -10 ̊C), so there’s never a need to carry protective gear.

Compact, lightweight and quiet

Let the OM Series set you free. Our compact mirrorless cameras and small lightweight lenses boast the performance of pro DSLR systems. You'll have greater freedom of movement to capture better photos and the near silent operation to avoid disturbing the natural tranquility around you.

From beginner to professional, choose the Camera that fits you, your creativity, and your aspirations.

Super high res, all handheld

Tripods are a drag to haul around. The OM Series lets you leave it at home. Take sharp, spectacularly detailed 50MP images, and all you have to do is hold the camera. Handheld High Res Shot Mode on selected OM cameras works by automatically taking up to 16 shots and merging them into a single 50MP image. Perfect for anyone looking to travel light.

Neutral density. No filter.

Create dreamy, moody landscapes without carrying ND Filters. Selected OM Series cameras preview slow shutter effects in the viewfinder before shooting. Live ND Mode eliminates swapping ND filters for each shooting scene or lens. Choose from up to 5 ND levels starting from 1EV to 5EV.

In-camera Focus Stacking

Create dramatic landscape photos with greater depth of field when you have a subject in both the close foreground and distant background. Selected OM cameras offer in-camera Focus Stacking capturing up to 15 shots with varying focus points and instantly merging them to create one beautifully focused image.

Technology has replaced the tripod

Leave your tripod behind! Our industry-leading 5-Axis Image Stabilization allows you to shoot tack-sharp photos, all handheld. With up to 8 shutter speed steps of compensation for tripod-like stability, you have more freedom for better results.
