OM-1 Mark II 12-40mm PRO II Lens Kit

I am a professional wildlife photographer and photography trip leader. Due to past injuries, am looking at a lighter kit than my current Nikon Z series equipment. I bought an OM5.2 several months ago and have really enjoyed it, found is size and functions"liberating"! Purchased a OM1.2 + 40-150mm f2.8 lens a few weeks ago before heading to Kenya to lead a group of photographers in the Mara & Ambolesi NP's. I was using the OM1.2 kit side x side with my Nikon Z gear, (Z8 + Z 180-600mm) Overall, very satisfied! Getting the muscle memory down for working without looking at the camera...its a process! Images are very good...sometimes maybe just a tad under exposed as I find the histogram to be very "chunky", not very precise/poor resolution vs the competition. Build quality seems excellent, as good as anything I have ever used. It handled a raging down poor and incredibly dusty, hot conditions with no issue or concerns. Battery life could be much better. The OM1.2/40-150mm lens combo is excellent!...great for wildlife, birds and some landscapes/sunset/sunrise shots. As noted by many others these systems are very light and managable while bringing some serious tech to the table. Have not used much of that tech, but will soon with another trip set for Costa Rica in October with another 8 guests. One item of the tech which I did use daily and is a standout is the image stabilization...it is remarkable and clearly more effective than my current Nikon Z cameras. The camera menues are well organized and easy to access, but the main function/setting screen accessed by the "OK" button is excellent...best I have used, I would be lost without it! The speed of the camera is great with its high frames/sec capabilities, never hit the buffer and it never seemed to get too hot or overheat...and it was hot at times!! Using UHS2 SD cards is another bonus. I did not use that tracking that much but it seemed fine. I did struggle with the single focus point getting lost somewhere in the viewfinder...for me, its hard to find & see at times. Is there an option to make the outline of the focus point thicker/brighter in the menus...could not find it. As I comtemplate a transition from the Z system I will continue to take this camera on all my travels going forward while i continue to evaluate the system, the images and other functions! Waiting to see if/when there is an OM1.3 and what it might offer before making a full commitment to the OM system. This system definately has my attention!!

I am absolutely thrilled with this camera. Coming from Canon FF and APS-C, I gave up nothing and gained so much more. Once you learn to shoot on Micro Four Thirds, there is really no limits to what you can do. And that isn't hard to do, just properly expose your photos! The pro-capture mode is a game changer for catching those moments when a bird takes flight. The ergonomics of the camera are fantastic and all the physical controls you need are at your fingertips. The speed and capabilities of this camera are flagship level features. There is simply nothing else that can compete with the features included in this camera at this price. As for low light performance, the camera is amazing and the IBIS makes it possible to hand hold long exposure for tack sharp photos. And don't believe what you hear about problems at high ISO, the squirrel photo attached was taken at ISO 25600! Just a little noise reduction in Lightroom and it looks fantastic. The OM-1 Mark II is a great camera, complimented by an amazing system and a huge selection of reasonably priced top quality lenses. I bought the OM-5 II six months ago and it continues to be my EDC, but the OM-1 Mark II is my go to wildlife camera. Truly amazing.

Shocked by the lack of body finish durability after 3 short weeks. I have two EM-1X’s and after 5 plus years of use there is not a mark on them!

The OM-1II fits the bill for me. My Lumix S5II takes wonderfully clean, clear photos but is large, heavy, and has some annoying button & dial placements. Hard to carry around all day. I had an E-M10IV, which was tons of fun, but it was so small that it was difficult to carry as it had no grip. And as a entry level camera, it didn't have as good of IBIS as I would like nor some of the features found in more advanced bodies. Enter the OM-1II. The ergonomics on this camera are outstanding! Even though it's bigger than the E-M10IV, it's more comfortable to carry around for long periods. The IBIS is incredible (who needs a tripod?), and it's feature set suits me well -- high-res mode, live ND & composite, HDR, etc. I really like the high-res EVF, and the battery life is significantly better than my other two cameras. Yeah, the MFT sensor is a little noisier than my full frame camera, but post processing software cleans that up quite well. And the upside, of course, is that MFT lenses are very small & lightweight compared to their full frame cousins. So, all-in-all, I love it. It fits the bill.

I switched to Olympic mirrorless cameras quite a number of years ago and I have never looked back. This is a replacement for my OM 1 that had an accident and met it's maker. I am a wildlife and bird photographer. I shoot 99% of the time with my 150-400mm f/4.5 PRO lens. These cameras allow me to take tack sharp photos without a tripod whether I'm shooting a cheetah in full flight or a small passerine in the big blue yonder. The speed, performance, detail and shot quality is terrific even with a heavy crop. The bird tracking is fantastic. All in all I am very pleased with the camera.

As someone new to both the OM System brand and the M43 ecosystem, the OM-1 Mark II has been incredibly easy to warm up to. The camera feels well-built, intuitive, and thoughtfully designed, making the transition from other systems much smoother than I expected. I came to this camera and lens combo from a Nikon Z8 and a Fujifilm XH2S before that. Those previous cameras were both great and I absolutely loved my Z8, but for my current needs of primarily travel photography the large body and lenses were becoming burdensome to carry and I found myself leaving the camera home for some trips and just taking the phone. This Om1 mark 2 really hits a sweet spot in size and function for me, gives me a nice deep grip like I like, has a fast stacked sensor and nice image quality. I own a TG5 and have used other Olympus bodies in the past so wasn't brand new to the experience, but I am quite happy with the faster speeds and the revised menu system. You really can't beat OM for their computational functions, I love using live nd and gnd when I am packing light, not needing to carry accessories. The 12-40 f2.8 is a quality lens with a bright aperture. I ended up pairing that with the 40-150 f2.8 for portraits, and wildlife with a 1.4 teleconverter. I am really thrilled with this system and can see being here for quite some time.

The camera is good for a micro-4/3 sensor. The 12mm to 40mm ll Pro lens works great on the OM1-M2. Coming from full frame cameras, I am new to the micro4/3 camera system. I have the camera about one month. For me the menu system is tough to learn at my age. I think I have the camera setup only to find I move a setting like I am shooting in RAW only to find I have it set to JPEG. The photo I have sent with the review. One of the advantages for me was not to carry my Haida glass filter for landscapes. So, I am still struggling to get my waterfall picture to look like my Sony A7M4 with the glass graduated filters. On the OM1M2. I have to turn off the graduated filter to adjust the camera F-Stop. On my Nikon D700 with 12-MP RAW. I thought the OM sensor would be as good or better. I am still debating on that. This is why I only gave the system three stars. Otherwise, the camera works well for what it is. The photo I uploaded was a high resolution from a RAW using a CPL on the lens and the in camera graduated filter from the top down. The file is 66mb JPEG.

While I haven't had the chance to really fully test it out, what I have shot so far has been amazing. I came from an APS-C camera and was a little nervous about going to the smaller sensor, but I am impressed with how this compares to my 24 meg other brand camera. I love the GND and ND filters, and the stacking is crazy. So far, just a few weeks in, and I am glad I made the switch. I travel quite a bit, and in all sorts of weather. This camera and the TG-7 I got last year have made me less nervous about rain and saltwater.
