THE OM SYSTEM GUIDE TO

MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY

CAPTURE A BIG, BEAUTIFUL WORLD HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT.

Insects in their natural habitat, spiderweb dew, petals on a flower — there’s a wonder-filled world in your backyard, your garden and the woods, fields or any green space near your home. Capture that world with macro photography.

THESE TIPS WILL INSTANTLY MAKE YOU A BETTER MACRO PHOTOGRAPHER

01.

Find Flowering bushes

You wont have to go far to find shrubs and other flora that insects find attractive. Even in the hustle and bustle of modern life you can look around the edges of city parks. Remember to go out early when its cooler and insects are slower.

02.

Control your background

Depsite Macro photography giving us very shallow depth of field naturally, backgrounds can still appear busy or cluttered. Try to find a good angle with a preferred background and don't forget to make the best out of fully articulated screens on your camera. This can help adjust the lens direction in tricky positions and prevent too much disruption to the natural environment.

03.

Different lenses, different settings

Whilst there may not seem much of a difference in length between the M.Zuiko 60mm F2.8 Macro and the M.Zuiko 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO lenses, they work in very different ways! Ideal settings for single shots on the 60mm would find you shooting at F5.6 whilst on the 90mm at full magnification you should be around F10. These settings are designed to help you get a good balance of depth of field and light.

04.

Watch, learn, practice

Macro photography is one of the most difficult genres to master, particularly if you are determined to get as close as possible. With up to 4:1 reproduction on a 90mm macro lens this can be super tough but we can make it easier.
